  • Remember cuddling and holding your baby close builds up the bond between you both.
  • Sing to your baby. Choose a song you know. Hold your baby tight and then take some big steps saying ,’ One two three here we go.’ Go round the room in different ways e.g. tiptoe, giant paces..
  • Play with your child at different times during the day.
  • Cut out some pictures of spring things such as flowers and baby creatures. Look at them with your child and talk about what you see. Ask them what they can see. Don’t worry if they just make a sound as they are in the early stages of learning to talk.
  • Enjoy playing with your child particularly at this time of year when things are new and fresh.

Games

  • Cut out some flowers from different materials. Glue them onto some card. Get your child to touch them with their hands and feet. Let them crawl over them. Allow them to touch different surfaces. You could try foam, plastic, fabric and cardboard.
  • Sing ‘Mary had a little lamb’ make up some actions to go with it. Get your child to join in as you sing the song.
  • Hide some small chocolate Easter eggs around your home or in the garden. Go in search for them. When you find them show your baby how happy and surprised you are.
  • Sit your child in front of you. Hide a spring flower or the picture of one behind your back. As it appears watch what your child does. As you bring it out clap and call out ‘Hooray’. Get your child to join in.
  • Spring is the time for young birds. Get some large synthetic coloured feathers and allow your child to touch and feel them. Watch how they respond to the touch of the feather.
